Packing
Packings are made of natural or synthetic rubber and are sometimes reinforced with rings and fibers to provide high resistance to water and oil, especially under high pressure.
The way the packing works and is installed is such that the fluid pressure sticks the sealing lip to the wall, creating a more accurate and effective seal. Rubber packings can operate in one-way or two-way operation, which is determined by the design of their inner and outer edges.
If the inner edge is longer, the packing acts as a piston; while if the outer edge is longer, it acts as a throat. If both edges are symmetrical, the packing will simultaneously perform the function of a piston and throat seal.
Types of packing based on type and material
Viton packing is one of the most resistant and durable types of rubber packing, which has a higher price than other types due to its exceptional characteristics.
This type of packing performs exceptionally well in harsh operating conditions, such as high temperatures and pressures or contact with corrosive fluids, and is an ideal choice for equipment that requires reliable sealing.
Heat-resistant Viton packing is widely used in the oil and gas industries for processing crude oil and its derivatives. This packing acts as a dynamic seal in pumps, shafts and pistons and is able to withstand harsh operating conditions. Due to its high strength, it is also referred to as high temperature and high pressure packing.
Viton packing features:
✔️ Contains 65 to 75 percent fluorine, which reduces the rate of curing and increases its durability.
✔️ Excellent resistance to amine-containing oil compounds and methanol-containing fuels.
✔️ Temperature resistance up to 350°C.
✔️ High stability against pressure and corrosive fluids.
This packing is an ideal choice for industrial environments with severe operating conditions and provides reliable performance in sealing equipment.
Silicone packing is made from a combination of silicon and oxygen atoms, which gives it special and unique properties.
This type of packing is used as a rubber seal in jacks and pumps, especially in the piston and throat sections on shafts.
In the food and hygiene industries, it is used as food packing or sanitary packing due to its high compatibility with hygiene standards.
Silicone packing features:
✔️ High temperature resistance, suitable for industrial and thermal environments.
✔️ Excellent resistance to ozone and ultraviolet radiation, which increases the life and durability of the packing.
Due to these advantages, silicone packing is an ideal option for sensitive applications and environments with harsh conditions.
Oil-resistant packing (NBR) is one of the most widely used types of rubber packing, produced in various sizes and as NBR piston packing and NBR throat packing. The reason it is called oil packing is its high compatibility with oily and greasy environments.
Due to its excellent resistance to oil and grease, this packing is known as the most widely used rubber packing in oil sealing systems and is more affordable compared to other packings.
Features of NBR packing:
✔️ Oil-resistant and grease-resistant, suitable for hydraulic and mechanical systems.
✔️ Excellent ductility, which adjusts the compression on the sleeve and prevents damage to rotating parts.
✔️ Can be used as a sealing gasket in oil-pressured environments.
✔️ Temperature tolerance between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius, without loss of performance quality.
In the NBR packing production process, the use of appropriate stabilizers in polymerization plays a key role in increasing the heat resistance and durability of the packing. These features have made NBR oil-proof packing an ideal choice for use in various industries.
Acid-resistant packing (EPDM) is a rubber seal with high resistance to corrosive substances, salt water and acidic and alkaline compounds. This packing is used as a dynamic seal in various industries to seal the piston and shaft of pumps under harsh operating conditions.
Due to its anti-acid and anti-corrosion properties, EPDM packing is an ideal choice for pumps and jacks that are in contact with corrosive chemicals.
EPDM packing features:
✔️ High resistance to salt compounds and corrosive fluids, suitable for chemical and marine industries.
✔️ Temperature resistance up to +120 ° C, without changing performance.
✔️ Strong electrical insulation, suitable for environments with electric current.
✔️ Resistance to harsh atmospheric conditions, including sunlight, ozone and humidity.
Due to its durability and high performance, this packing is a reliable choice for sealing systems in industrial and chemical environments.
Polyurethane Packing is a durable and flexible seal that is used in piston and throat shafts due to its unique properties. This packing is produced from the reaction between polyols and isocyanates and is manufactured by two methods: turning and molding.
One of the most important advantages of polyurethane packing is its compatibility with the food and hygiene industries, which makes it ideal for sensitive and hygienic environments.
Features of polyurethane packing:
✔️ High flexibility in a wide temperature range.
✔️ Strong adhesion to various surfaces.
✔️ Excellent resistance to abrasion, increasing product life.
✔️ High pressure resistance, suitable for heavy industrial applications.
✔️ Resistance to corrosive materials, increasing durability in chemical environments.
✔️ Unparalleled durability and strength, stable performance in harsh conditions.
✔️ Suitable for food and health industries, without causing pollution.
Due to these characteristics, polyurethane packing is one of the most widely used options in various industries, including automotive, medical, food and petrochemical.
Kastas Packing is a dynamic seal used in various industries, especially in the piston and shaft pump sector, to seal and prevent fluid leakage.
This packing is known by various names including Kastage Packing, Kastas Packing, Kastas Duster and Kastas Packing.
Types of Kastas Packing available:
🔹 Kastas Polyurethane Packing – wear-resistant, flexible and suitable for harsh industrial conditions.
🔹 Kastas NBR Packing (oil-resistant) – has high resistance to oil and grease, ideal for oily environments.
Due to its manufacturing materials, this packing has high performance in hydraulic and pneumatic systems and ensures high durability in various working conditions.
Piston packing is a type of rubber seal that is installed on the piston shaft and is responsible for preventing fluid leakage.
This packing functions as a one-way seal; meaning that it is located inside the piston and performs the sealing process when moving. This packing is easily placed in the seat grooves and is used for fixed and mobile applications in hydraulic and pneumatic pumps and jacks.
Piston packing features:
✔️ Longer inner edge, which improves sealing performance in piston systems.
✔️ Easy installation in special piston grooves.
✔️ High efficiency in pressurized systems.
With its precise performance, this packing plays an important role in improving the performance of industrial pumps and jacks.
Jack throat packing is a type of rubber seal used in hydraulic and pneumatic jacks to prevent fluid leakage. This packing is also used in water and air jacks and is installed on the neck of the jack to perform the sealing function effectively.
Jack throat packing features:
✔️ Suitable for hydraulic and pneumatic jacks, with high performance at various pressures.
✔️ Special design with a longer outer edge, which improves sealing performance.
✔️ Resistance to pressure and wear, increasing durability and longevity.
✔️ Preventing fluid leakage and improving the performance of mechanical systems.
Due to these features, jack throat packing is known as a reliable seal in various industries.
